Eleventh Annual NMC Hero Race

April 18, 2026!

The Annual NMC Hero Race, formally the Big Little Hero Race, is back for another SUPER year. The event is being put on by NMC’s Professional Communications class, taught by Kristy McDonald. The class teaches students how to communicate with each other and the public by putting together this annual race! The money raised from this event will fund our race and support NMC's College for Kids program. This initiative offers scholarships to children in the Traverse City community, giving them access to engaging, hands-on learning opportunities.

Mark your calendars now for Saturday, April 18, 2026. The 11th Annual NMC Hero Race will take place on NMC’s Main Campus and promises a morning full of energy, smiles, and a little family-friendly competition. Don’t forget to come dressed as your favorite superhero or create your own. Capes, costumes, and creativity are all part of the fun, and awards will be given for the best-dressed superhero, best-dressed mini-hero, best-dressed duo, best-dressed pet, and more!

Each year, the race recognizes a community member as a “Local Hero” for their leadership and impact. This year’s Local Hero Award celebrates the Outstanding Alumni honorees of NMC. This is NMC’s 75th anniversary, and this year's race will have a celebratory theme.

Race events include:

• A one-mile Fun Run, beginning at 9 AM

• A 5K chip-timed race, beginning at 10 AM

• A 10K chip-timed race, beginning at 10 AM

Families and spectators can also enjoy several activities throughout the event:

• 🎠Carnival games and food

• 🎂Cake walk

• 🪷Sensory room

• 🥐Bake sale

• 🛌Silent auction

• 🏅Award ceremony

Packet pickup will be held the night before the race, featuring a pasta dinner along with cape and mask decorating. If you are unable to attend the evening before, packets can be picked up the morning of the race, beginning at 8:00 AM.
